Le 08 août 2012 un témoin allongé sur une terrasse regarde le ciel étoilé lorsqu'il suit durant 5 secondes le déplacement rectiligne d'un objet qu'il ne reconnaît pas. Ce dernier a la forme d'une "navette de tisserand" de couleur brun-vert, aux bords diffus. Au centre de l'objet, une forme ronde rouge sombre est aperçue. L'ensemble semble donc très flou mais reste cependant identifiable sur le fond du ciel qu'elle occulte. Aucun bruit n'est entendu durant le déplacement rectiligne du NE au SO. Cet objet se déplace avec son grand axe orienté perpendiculairement au sens du mouvement. Un seul témoignage est recueilli. Compte tenu des éléments objectifs recueillis durant l'enquête (voir le compte rendu d'enquête), à savoir : - Forme et apparence du PAN. - Vitesse et trajectoire non conformes à un objet passif poussé par le vent présent au jour et à l’heure de l’observation. - Vitesse et/ou altitude et/ou taille estimées non conformes à celles un engin manufacturé motorisé (pas de bruit perçu), nous pouvons conclure que le PAN observé par le témoin ne ressemble à aucun objet ou phénomène connu. Ce cas est à classer en « D1 » comme observation d’un phénomène non identifié. Ce témoignage est d’une bonne consistance : précis et comportant de nombreux détails, mais observé de loin, par un témoin unique, et sans photo. L’observation est étrange car il s’agit d’un PAN ayant une apparence peu commune difficilement comparable à quoi que ce soit de connu. Le 4 août 2012 aux environs de 23h, un témoin observe le lent passage silencieux dans le ciel de cinq formes ovales de couleur orangée. Le témoin constate que les formes se rassemblent avant de commencer une lente ascension. Le témoin perd de vue les formes, leur luminosité s'affaiblissant progressivement. Ce cas d'observation correspond tout à fait à l'observation du passage de lanternes thaï. Le lâcher de lanternes volantes est très fréquent les samedis soir d'été : nombreuses fêtes locales ou mariages. Comme les vents locaux en montagne sont très complexes, surtout l'été en fin de journée, le vent observé par la station météo proche ( Genève) ne correspond pas tout à fait au déplacement observé. Le GEIPAN n'a pas fait d'enquête locale pour rechercher les auteurs de ce lâcher. Le témoin est réticent à cette hypothèse présentant des arguments auxquels le GEIPAN a répondu (voir courriers). Le GEIPAN classe ce cas "B" : observation probable de lanternes thaï. [GEIPAN classification B — Lanterne thai]
