Light over Hot Springs, SD

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

I went outside for a cigarette around 2005 and looked up at sky like I always do. I saw 2 lines of green lights moving fast across the sky from west to east. At first I thought it might have been a meteor with a tale but I saw it was dozens of individual lights, green & constant. Staggered in random groups from 1 to 3 in a row, then space, then another group. Both lines different in groupings and spacing, reminding me of piano player tape. The line of lights moved very fast & w/o sound. As the got farther east they began disappearing from the beginning of lines to end but all at one spot in sky. Seemed like they were entering a tunnel or turning off lights when reaching a certain spot. Sky was clear & lights were much brighter than stars in sky. [NUFORC annotation: Starlink - Possible]

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #178398). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
