Probable conventional

Oval over Elburn, IL

A conventional explanation is favored by the record but was never formally confirmed.

The report, as filed

Appears to be a powered aircraft with three contrails. Flying at a really high altitude towards the northwest. I've seen aircraft at high altitude fly over before but really in the skies above my home... this thing was really weird and it had no discernible wings or anything which you normally see. I suspect it was just due to the reflection of the Sun but who the hell knows, its 2023, the world is a nut house so I figured I'd share it maybe it's something, maybe not. I have photographs that I took on a pixel 6 pro, I can share them. I have 10 photos. [NUFORC annotation: Aircraft - Probable]

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #178379). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
