Light over Enfield · United Kingdom

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

My daughter was putting the bins out and called me to the door. She was at the front gate and looked quite shaken up. She couldn’t talk, but just pointed up to the sky and kept her gaze on me. I couldn’t hear anything so wondered what on earth was wrong. I approached her and then she pointed up again and I was very shocked to see this object. I couldn’t process what I was looking at at first. When I saw the formation of lights I felt a bit sick and shaky, it really looked so intimidating and like nothing I’ve ever seen. This object was seen at night and it seemed to be about 200 feet up but it could have easily been more. It moved very solidly and steadily and looked like it was quite large. It made a low humming noise. We thought about it being a drone, but it seemed too big and the noise didn’t sound like a drone. Every one of the 12 lights were flashing on and off together at 1 second intervals no other lights were visible just the 12 lights which were very clear. The individual lights were quite large and circular in shape. It looked very menacing to be honest. It moved in a straight line, not deviating from it’s path at all, whereas a drone would surely move around a little. It carried on and even in the distance looked substantial in size. It then disappeared from view over the roof tops and across a field. We didn’t have our phones on us and are so angry that we didn’t manage to film it. We both drew what we had seen when we had calmed down.

What would the paper say?

UK sighting reports were handled by the MoD's UFO desk until 2009; later records answer to the Freedom of Information Act 2000, earlier files sit at the National Archives. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
