The report, as filed
It was just getting dark and we had been watching planes come in and out of our area. I then saw a flash of green light come down (quite far away in the distance, a few KM] and it quickly moved horizontally to the left. Then it stayed stationary for almost a minute with a blinking greenish light. Before zipping off to the right more than twice as fast as any other plane seen and disappearing. It wasn't until this happened that I thought of it to be a UFO. I have never seen anything like this before and thought I never would. I don't know what it was, but I do know what it was not (a plane, a flare, a weather balloon, a satellite or any shooting star, etc) . Because it was quite far away, like the distance we had watched the other planes, and because it was getting dark, it was hard to determine the exact shape. But when it took off, it looked to have been a disc like shape.
Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #171045). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

What would the paper say?
Canadian military and radar records answer to the Access to Information Act; historic UFO files are held by Library and Archives Canada. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

Standing on my balcony looking north toward Caledon Ontario I saw what I first thought was a black crow or other similar bird soaring quickly from west to east across the sky maybe 300 ft away. But when I saw it disappear behind a cloud that I estimate was 8 miles away, I knew it was not a bird but something much larger and further away. I estimate the distance it crossed was about 5 miles in 5 seconds.

Large flashes in the sky. The flashes illuminated the lower half of the horizon that went from red--blue/green--red in the matter of seconds. Then an additional red flash followed a minute later.
