Sphere over Midland, NC

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

While star gazing movent was noticed and knew it wasn't a star. Watched it move up and over sometimes at a fast speed. Movement was also down at high speed until it finally shot up and out of site. During the time of watching it would pulsate bright then turn back to not pulsating. This video was taken while laying on the front lawn of our house looking southeast.

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #178407). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

These looked like a "normal satellite" light (no blinking) traveling from N to SE. They were in a perfect straight line, evenly spaced and kept moving once they appeared in northern sky and moving until out of sight in southeast sky. It was perfectly clear (no clouds) and still night sky at 5:25am on February 27, 2020. I counted up to 35 and they kept appearing as I talked (and lost count) with my daughter. I called my wife out to witness it and also call my daughter living about 3 hours away of which she was able to go outside and witness the same as we talked on the phone.

I was driving home down a narrow country road with tall trees on each side and it was dark. I thought this red dot was initially a helicopter but it appeared suddenly and zipped quickly over the trees from N to S then right back across from S to N – too quick of movement for a helicopter. Then, immediately, a small red light appeared, not moving, centered above the road and just as quickly disappeared. Maybe a drone/prank? I can’t stop thinking about it. Witnessed an unusually bright meteor that may have actually made it to the ground. It was coming straight down 90 degrees from my location. I saw from about a 50 degree inclination all the way down to the horizon. It maintained a dark green glow all the way down. It was still dusk the sky has been very smokey here for the last couple of days and a nearly full moon had just risen just a few degrees from where I saw it. These factors that would made visibility difficult are the reason I felt this would be worth making a note of and at any other time of night this fireball would have been bright enough to cast shadows on the ground.
