Light over Cape May, NJ

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

Saw “red dancing light” thought coast guard was experimenting with flares. Then saw 50 or so “blinking” lights moving from East to West, and into another huge pale yellow “orb” three military helicopters on site as well. One hovering low directly above lake in front of us, two behind us on either side of the lighthouse. Air was extremely heavy. Air tasted like musk. Old perfume. Extremely heavy taste in mouth. Thought we were being sprayed. Called the coast guard and sent videos. Contacted the FAA with same information. Both said there was nothing in the videos worth investigating. I have videos, but reluctant to share, as I said my friends name in one of them. But I will share if asked. My friend and I both watched for over an hour. Then felt very, very disoriented. My friend and I are 31 year old life long residents of this area. Have seen many “arial phenomena” but nothing I’ve ever felt the need to report. Until now.

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #154732). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

Took the telescope out. It was 12:15 in the morning. I saw a yellow “star.” This object was only visible through my telescope. This object was moving erratically. In all different directions and looked like a small lightning bolt that didn’t go out. However, multiple times this object would widen itself and make the shape of a perfect zero. And when it was the shape of a zero, purple flares would shoot out of it. And it was so fast. It never stopped moving. About 2 hours afterwards, I checked again and it was still there. Only much, much smaller. I’m hesitant to share the exact location of this. It was, very peculiar. I’ve been taking my telescope out for over 10 years. Never saw anything like this. I’ve seen comets, planets, satellites, everything. This, is unexplainable.

We were heading out to the Wilmington Canyon on a fishing trip around 5 am. I was on watch looking north, when I noticed a bunch of large red circles in the distant sky, which were as bright as red fireworks that had just exploded and just stayed in one spot. There were about 16-20 in a close pattern, and another 8 or so, spread out slightly to the left. The lights didn't seem to go out, but seemed to move away toward the north until we couldn't see them anymore. They were way bigger than the stars and the planets but a lot smaller than a typical moon. It was a perfectly clear night this happened about 25-50 miles east of Atlantic City, over the ocean. I woke up one of the other guys who verified it was there. Both of the observers are Coast Guard licensed captains and have never seen anything like this before. ((ADDENDUM FROM SOURCE)) Peter, The date was Sept 28 2014 at approximately 5am. Also we did not call the hotline. As you saw, I listed 3 people seeing the orbs, the 3rd person saw the red but doesn't have very good vision. It was a gorgeous deep ruby red. ((END ADDENDUM))

It was decently close and silent and it disappeared and reappeared and was bright red and didn't have blinking lights like a plane and it totally moved around in the sky in a weird/unexplainable way until it disappeared into the distance (although it actually seemed more like it vanished because I it didn't seem to fly away until it was gone.) It actually was heading right towards us, but totally turned away and seemed be moving slowing in an unexplainable way. It was indeed pretty far away. We saw it over a cornfield, but I think not directly over i. It seams to dim from bright red to white. I filmed it but it's essentially just a pixelated red dot in the sky. I also later saw a plane go past about where the ufo was and I could hear the sound of the plane in the distance even father from where the ufo had been, but the ufo still made no sound when I saw it earlier.
