Light over Atlantic Ocean (50 miles off NJ coast), NJ

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

While riding out 80 miles off of Cape May, NJ, to go fishing in the Canyons, a bright white light flickering red and white was seen above the water, due East approximately 50+ miles offshore, while it could’ve been an aircraft it was visible for well over 30 mins (we were moving at 25mph, aircraft move at 500 mph and would’ve been out of sight quickly). Also thinking it could’ve been a star except that the sun was rising and this was the only thing in the sky and looked too bright for a star, in addition when looking around to try and see anything else around there appeared to be a light right below it was above/on the water. I then searched again for anything else In the sky when I looked back at the spot it was gone.

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #148400). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
