As reported

Light over Sidney, ME

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

Saw an extremely bright light close to the horizon. It was orange in color and extremely bright. Watched and it did not move. Decided it must be a star or planet as it was stationary. Kept driving and watching it. It stayed in the same spot. Then it seemed to start to move up. Wasn't sure as I was driving, but it looked to just go straight up. It did not change shape/get smaller or lose intensity of brightness like I think it would of it were moving away. Looked to go up for a bit until we could not see it anymore.

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #132299). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
