Disk over Spearfish, SD
A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.
The report, as filed
We saw a bright light in SW sky, much brighter than stars. When I got out a spotting scope you could see it was strobing colors. When I put it on highest power it was clearly a flattened disk with different colored lights on edges. I went outside to take a picture and it had dropped 15 to 20 degrees and now sat right on the horizon. This was a matter of a minute or two at most. It was in the clouds and I couldn't get a picture.
Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #131541). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.
Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

I was watching the sunset on my computer of Spearfish S Dakota weather cam, shortly after sunset a cigar shape appears it was metallic and moved slowly from left to right on my screen. My husband and I watched until it got to the end of my screen. I was able to back up and watch again that's when I started to video and take pictures. There were no flashing lights like a plane would have, in fact no lights at all. This took place at 9:15 central standard time that's my time. I believe that Spearfish is an hour behind us. As it went along, different pieces seemed to stream underneath the main light, which slowly dissipated in the night sky.. Almost seemed to have a sparkle to the front. Suspected to have been a re-entry of a portion of the Russian Cosmos 2495. Our gratitude to Mr. Ted Molczan for his proper identification of the object. PD
