Light over Wellington, KS

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

On a camping trip, about a mile south of Wellington, 5 people witnessed an unexplained object in the sky to the North. The object appeared to be above or just to the North of Wellington. At first, the object looked like a candle light. The first two to witness the object believed it was a Chinese lantern at first. The object began to alternate slowly between being dim and very bright. As the object was fading intensity, the first two witnesses alerted the next 3 to the object. As the five of us watched, two more lights, one red and one blue appeared. The three lights moved independently of each other in sporadic and random patterns, changing in intensity for about 45 seconds before fading away. I feel like it is important to note that one of the spectators felt that the experience was too intense, and towards the end, began to feel extreme anxiety.

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #130080). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
