The report, as filed
Last fall, as I was driving home northward on the 285, on a fairly steep upgrade, I saw what looked like a large silvery beach ball rolling down the center line of the road. I was going 55 mph on cruise control as I always do returning home to conserve fuel. I estimated the “beach ball” to be 6 to 7 feet in diameter and moving at 30 to 40 mph in my direction. It appeared to be rolling, but not bouncing – as if it were gyro controlled holding exactly to the center line of the highway. There were no other cars on the road and I was alone. I pulled a bit to the right as I passed it and the air from my car did not disturb its path. As I reached the crest of the hill I could see it beginning to follow the curve in the highway about 1/3 of a mile behind me. It made no sound and I don't recall seeing the reflection of my white car on it as it passed. It was in the early afternoon in bright sunlight. Sorry this is such a late report but I have been reluctant to file for fear of being thought absurd. I have a degree in ((deleted--arts and sciences degree)) from UC Riverside and post grad in the ((deleted--graduate degree in arts & sciences)) at the same school and Colorado University.
