Sphere over Leadville, CO

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

A bright orange/amber orb appeared from the southwest, traveling towards the northeast. Was traveling faster than an airplane (we saw several planes passing overhead), but not as fast as a meteor. A distinct vapor trail was visible behind the craft, as reflected by the moonlight. I would estimate the altitude to be between 15,000 to 18,000 ft above sea level. As an airline pilot, it was something unique that I was unable to explain. The orb disappeared behind Mt. Massive. Suspected to have been a re-entry of a portion of the Russian Cosmos 2495. Our gratitude to Mr. Ted Molczan for his proper identification of the object. PD

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #113404). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
