Light over Kitty Hawk, NC

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

The lights were bright red, appeared to be round, and blinked. Once they broke off, they scattered throughout the sky and moved south, fading away in the distance. No sound. We assume a nighttime sighting, and have amended the time above. PD

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #112027). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

Appeared just under the Big Dipper going NE to SE, a straight line of moving “stars”. Then they seemed to disappear even though this was a very clear night with no clouds.

Date is flawed. We have changed it, to reflect a sighting in September 2014, not October 2014. PD

Sitting on the deck at approximately 930 pm, we witnessed two orange/white strobing orbs appear to the south of our position in Kitty Hawk. The first appeared and remained stationary for about 10 minutes. It strobed orange to white and at some times looked red. It eventually move at a slight angle becoming very dim, until it disappeared. Shortly after, the second orb with the same coloration appeared in the same area of the sky. It drifted slightly from East to West, then remained stationary for about 8 minutes. It then rose straight upwards. As it rose a small white orb seemed to drop out of the orange orb. The small white orb disappeared immediately and the orange orb faded until it was completely out of sight. After about 10 minutes, a third orange orb came into view directly to the north of Kitty Hawk, lower on the horizon than the previous two, but strobing orange/ white. It appeared to be moving towards our position, becoming increasingly more visible. Then it began to fade until it was no longer visible.
