Dans la nuit du 31 décembre 2009 au premier janvier 2010 à minuit trente, un témoin est intrigué par le lent déplacement O-N dans le ciel d'une boule rouge au contour jaune. Le phénomène est observé environ trois minutes avant de faire un brusque "départ". Faiblement étrange et très peu consistant, ce cas d’observation est une probable méprise avec une lanterne thaïlandaise. Ce cas est classé B : observation probable d'une lanterne thaïlandaise.
