Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

I saw a black object moving about 1000 ft above ground. It made no sound and I thought it might be a paraglider. It sort of floated across the landscape. I could hear jets also but did not see any. That noise did not come from the object though. Object was triangular and black and looked a little like an angel (2 wings). I watched it move west to east and looked away for an instant and it vanished. It was not scary, but I am not sure what it was. This happened in a rural area.

Highly reflective surface at 10,000 ft appeared and disappeared several times. It moved too far too fast to be any type of aircraft. - I know this isn't much to go on.
