Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

sitting on the beach at night for about 30 minutes and saw 3 bright yellowish/orange lights horizontal to each other moving up in the sky directly east in above the Atlantic. Lights appeared in sky and moved up. Didn't seem to come from the ocean like a flare would. All 3 Disappeared behind a small cloud and never resurfaced for the remainder of our time on the beach. Approximately 30min we waited but saw nothing else.

Three lights in a perfect triangle appear with light appearance akin to stars. Lights were spread out fairly considerably. Lights then move south in a perfect triad formation and disappear behind clouds. Viewed from beachfront location.

I was driving from West to East toward the ocean on my way home when I saw three orange lights in a straight horizontal line hovering which seemed to be over the ocean. They slowly faded out one by one and then I saw them again a couple miles to the south just as they were disappearing again. I had seen this same thing about 10 years ago while I was walking on the beach at night with my mom. Same place.

A minute later, another left the beach not far from me. When I got to where I thought they both originated, there was no one there. Except for myself, the beach was empty. Then I look forward, and a third left the beach only closer to me now – maybe 100 yards in front of me. When I got to where this one launched…nobody. All three disappeared in flickers, ascending over the ocean. Not bottle rockets or flairs. These orange lights were slow and steady.
