Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

While starwatching with my family in the skies over the Pacific WNW of Oceanside, Oregon, at around 2000 on November 4, I snapped some photos with my phone to test out a new camera app. I reviewed the photos approximately 10 minutes after they were taken and saw that one had captured 3 blue lights in a triangular formation. I immediately returned outside to attempt to see the lights and to recreate the photo, but was unable to reproduce the results or see anything in the sky that could have accounted directly for the three blue lights. I make no assertions about the cause or origin of these lights. Night photography with a smartphone presents many technical difficulties and opportunities for processiong errors and artifacts. Night photo indicates three blue lights in triangular formation. PD
