What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

I was driving down Wade Hampton Boulevard on my way to work and saw a bright, vivid green light appear in the sky, traveling quickly southwest for a few seconds before disappearing. It appeared to be within typical airplane-flying height, though I have no way to be sure if it was. There were no aircraft in the area, and no other lights in the sky in that area. It did not reappear at any point. I suppose it could have been comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), though I doubt a comet would be visible to the naked eye in that area due to all the street lights and I'm also not sure it is currently at a point where it would be visible to the naked eye in even a clear area. I'm fully certain that what I saw was an explainable object or phenomenon, but I recalled reading another report on this website about a green light that I believe was also from South Carolina, so I decided to report this anyway.

I was on my way to work when I witnessed a small white dot in the sky moving from west to northwest. I didn’t pay much attention thinking it was an airplane. Suddenly it got moved my direction so much that I noticed it was a white cylinder. Then suddenly it change to a gray metallic cylinder, and then it vanished. It didn’t shoot off in any direction. It just disappeared in a blink of an eye. It was as if it was cloaking itself. I stopped my car to look around for anything in the sky, but there was nothing. It is a perfect clear day with no clouds in the sky. I can’t explain what I witnessed today.

The event lasted about 5 minutes, from 10:30 p.m., till about 10:35 p.m., on May 12th, 2018. For most of the siting, the craft appeared to be the size of a star and occasionally would elongate into what appeared to be a small oval. Just to make sure my eyes were not playing tricks on me I looked at other stars and they were remaining still. I braced myself against a wall to steady my observation. The object moved in a straight line and in a zigzag pattern alternately. The object covered a patch of Sky approximately 3 finger widths (2.25") at arm's length (21.5"). The viewing direction was about 10 degrees east of due south by compass. The elevation was about 60 degrees above the horizon.

It was my mother and I and we were pulling into our neighborhood late at night after a trip to Charleston. As we approached the house, I saw a small white light in the air that looked like a star. A second after I noticed it, it ascended at a rapid elevation into the sky, until disappearing. To note, the object rate of acceleration was too high to have been a helicopter, so I immediately discarded that idea. I did however, suspect it to be an LED helicopter, which are small, colorfully illuminated toys that are flung up into the air at a high speed. If not a manned craft of some nature, this would appear to be the most likely explanation. However, this white object lacked any of the flashing colors of the LED toy (which would consist of blue, red, green, etc), and did not fall back to the ground at any noticeable time. It merely hung in the sky for a single second, and then took off into the sky. I myself am very open minded to the possible existence of extraterrestrial UFOs; however, I also firmly believe that the majority of such sightings are either hoaxes or misinterpretations. This understanding is what prevented me from making a post earlier when it happened. However, after learning through research that there has been a number of small UFO sightings in the unexpected area of upstate South Carolina, I thought that perhaps mentioning my quick encounter could be worth while. Do note that I am not making a firm conclusion that it was of extraterrestrial origins, but rather that I cannot come to any definite conclusion to what I saw. We have corrected the time indicated above, to reflect a nighttime sighting. PD
