Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

Walking out of a movie theatre when me and another witness saw a bright yellow/green stationary blinking light in the sky that in a matter of seconds it shot across the sky and disappeared. It was not a meteorite, satellite, or a plane. There was no sound. Witness elects to remain totally anonymous; provides no contact information. PD

On my way driving to work, I observed in the sky this light. I assumed it was a shooting star but there were no other stars out. As I watched, the light seemed to veer off its course and vanish, as if it was leaving the atmosphere. It wasn't traveling with the same speed as previous shooting stars I've seen in the past. But faster than any plane I've seen overhead.
