Le 20 mars 1959 à environ 20h15 deux témoins à Tombouctou (Mali) observent un point fixe lumineux orange bas sur l'horizon. Le point fixe semble se déplacer assez lentement du NE- au SO sans trainée. Le point s'éloigne et diminue de grosseur et d'intensité avant de disparaitre complètement. Un seul témoignage est recueilli. Une vérification astronomique ne monte aucun astre dans la direction indiquée. De plus l'objet est en mouvement apparent. Le phénomène tel qu'il est décrit pourrait correspondre à un avion dans le lointain vu de face phare allumé. Le GEIPAN classe ce cas C par manque d'information et de recoupement.
