Un témoin relate l'observation d'une quinzaine de lumières bleues ou blanches dans le ciel, en regardant vers le sud du Grand-Bornand (en direction de La Clusaz, situé derrière la montagne du Danay) le 7 janvier 2014 vers 22 heures. La discothèque "le bal" à la Clusaz a un laser et l'utilise tous les soirs, même en semaine. Cet établissement est situé à environ 4 km au sud du point d'observation. Le laser utilisé projette un spot blanc qui décrit rapidement des cercles dans le ciel. Du fait que l'observation s'arrête lorsque le ciel devient clair renforce l'hypothèse que ce soit ce laser, projeté sur les nuages, que le témoin ait observé. Le témoin, habitué des lieux, estime que ce qu'il a vu n'est pas un laser de discothèque. Le rapport de gendarmerie note que le témoin avait pris ce jour là du IXPRIM, un antalgique qui contient du Tramadol, connu pour pouvoir provoquer rarement des hallucinations (entre 1/100 et 1/100). Le témoin a pu avoir sa perception perturbée par un médicament. Le GEIPAN classe ce cas "B" : observation probable de projection sur les nuages d'un laser de discothèque.
