Le 19 avril 2008 vers 21h20 trois personnes observent dans le ciel le lent déplacement de trois gros points lumineux jaune orange. Aucun bruit particulier n'est entendu durant l'observation. Les points disparaissent soudainement. Un des témoin a eu le réflexe de prendre une photographie : malheureusement la faible qualité de celle-ci ainsi que l’absence de repères permet juste d’illustrer le témoignage. Ce témoignage a toutes les caractéristiques des lanternes volantes. Mais le témoin ne donne point de repères terrestres ou célestes qui permettraient de préciser la direction qu’il estime du Sud Est vers le Nord Est. Cette imprécision empêche une conclusion ferme car le vent relevé de l’Est – Nord Est ne cadre pas avec la direction décrite. Ce cas est classé B comme probable observation de lanternes volantes. Dans la nuit du 17 au 18 avril 2008 à 0h43, un habitant de RODEZ (12) observe depuis chez lui deux lumières au-dessus de la ville en direction du SSE. Il les regarde au télescope et constate que les lumières "vibrent". Il prend alors à main levée 5 photographies : les trois premières espacées de 15 à 20 secondes et les deux autres après 7 minutes environ. Un seul témoignage est recueilli. Plusieurs hypothèses sont étudiées : aéronautique, astronomique ou festive (voir les notes d'enquête). D’étrangeté et de consistance faibles (témoin unique, photos inexploitables), ce cas présente plusieurs caractéristiques pouvant évoquer plusieurs hypothèses explicatives. Malheureusement, le long délai entre l’observation et son traitement, les imprécisions du témoignage et l’absence de réponse du témoin aux demandes du GEIPAN empêchent toute identification formelle du PAN.
