Le 24 janvier 2012 vers 19h45 un automobiliste circule sur un chemin de campagne lorsqu'il aperçoit un objet cylindrique lumineux blanc très intense et stationnaire à basse altitude. Le témoin arrête son véhicule et fait des signes. Aucun bruit n'est entendu. L'automobiliste reprend sa route et constate alors que l'objet semble le suivre. Rentré dans son village il se rend dans son jardin et constate que les lumières sont devenues rouge orangé. Il raconte ensuite son observation à sa femme et appelle alors les gendarmes. La gendarmerie sur place le soir même ne constatera aucune lumière et dans l'enquête de voisinage aucun autre témoignage n'est recueilli. L'observation d'un point lumineux bas sur l'horizon qui semble suivre le témoin et s'arrête quand il s'arrête, évoque celle d'un astre, dont la direction d'observation reste constante (en azimuth). Dans la direction indiquée par le témoin au début de l'observation (vers 250°, au SO) (Voir sur la carte, les 2 flèches à droite) se trouve effectivement la planète Vénus très brillante (magnitude -3,5) à basse élévation (10°) (voir carte Stellarium). Dans la deuxième partie de l'observation (voir la carte, flèche de gauche), le témoin observe vers le Sud Est : c'est un autre astre brillant qui est bien visible : l'étoile Sirius, la plus brillante du ciel (Mag -1,45) mais moins brillante que Vénus, elle apparaît logiquement plus lointaine au témoin. Etant donné l'incertitude sur les directions d'observation, le GEIPAN classe ce cas en "B" : observation probable de la planète Vénus et de l'étoile Sirius [GEIPAN classification B — Vénus]
