Le 29 septembre 2009 à15h, un témoin constate par la fenêtre le clignotement d'une petite forme lumineuse blanche à haute altitude. Au bout d'une minute, le point lumineux s’immobilise puis reprend sa trajectoire mais sans aucun clignotement. D'après des informations recueillies par téléphone auprés du témoin, celui-ci regardait vers le Sud, et l'objet se déplaçait vers l'Est (Voir carte). Les relevés météo au sol mentionnent à 14h un vent de Nord-Ouest puis de Nord à 15h. L'observation ne correspond donc pas avec un objet porté par le vent à basse altitude. Par contre Météo-France fait des lâchers de ballons sondes quotidiens depuis Trappes vers 12h TU, soit à 14h locales, c'est-à-dire une heure avant l'observation (voir le relevé qui indique que le vent au sol est du NW assez faible (5 kt) à 14h,qu'il passe ensuite à W plus fort (25 kt) à partir de 2800 M, pour repasser au NW plus haut). Comme les vents en altitude soufflaient vers l'Est, ce ballon expliquerait bien l'observation, environ une heure après le lâcher. Les clignotements correspondent à la rotation du ballon ou de réflecteurs. Le GEIPAN classe ce cas "A" comme identifié par l'observation d'un ballon sonde de Météo France lancé de Trappes à 14h .
