Le 6 juillet 2012 à partir de 21h50 plusieurs personnes sont intiguées par l'observation de phénomènes lumineux dans le ciel apparaissant de nombreuses fois (13 fois) dans la soirée. Un des témoin rapporte son observation au GEIPAN et à la gendarmerie. Cette observation par plusieurs témoins décrit un phénomène d'apparence étrange bien difficile à identifier si l'on n'a pas été informé auparavant. Le premiers vendredi de juillet, la nouvelle promotion de la Patrouille de France effectue une démonstration nocturne peu après le coucher du soleil, sur la région de Salon de Provence. Les Alphajets sont équipés d'un puissant phare dans le nez de l'avion, visible à plusieurs dizaines de km, si et seulement si l'observateur est dans l'axe de l'avion. Lors des acrobaties en vol, l'observateur lointain voit appraître et disparaître un ensemble de points lumineux.
