Le 20 août 2012 vers 22h30 deux témoins observent les déplacements particuliers et silencieux d'un objet rond lumineux dans le ciel. Il disparaît rapidement. Le relevé météo de Béziers Cap d'Agde, (très proche de Mèze), pour cette soirée montre un vent léger très instable, d'Ouest, puis passant au Nord : les mouvements de l'objet observé par les témoins sont nettement les mouvements d'un objet porté par le vent ; Du fait du feu d'artifice de cette soirée, on peut penser à un objet comme une lanterne thaïlandaise ou autre ballon lumineux lancé à l'occasion de ces festivités. Le témoin note une lumière blanche, alors que les témoins de lanternes thaïlandaise parlent le plus souvent de lumières orange-rouge. Le GEIPAN classe ce cas "B" observation probable d'un ballon lumineux (ballon à led) [GEIPAN classification B — Phénomène identifié non indiqué]
