Le 24 décembre 2012 à environ 21h45 une famille observe durant 5 minutes les déplacements silencieux de 6 à 8 points lumineux de couleur rouge à jaune orangé. Ils apparaissent successivement à la même fréquence et semblent se suivre à distance égale dans le ciel. Tous ont une trajectoire ascendante. Certains disparaissent instantanément. Un témoin fait une vidéo. L'observation des témoins est caractéristique d'une observation d'un lâcher de lanternes thailandaises, tant par les couleurs, les formes, le type de trajectoire, y compris l'extinction en vol ( disparition par fin de combustion du brûleur). Le sens de déplacement rapide de Sud vers Nord correspond au vent mesuré à Biarritz (relevé de vent de sud assez fort sur infoclimat. Les deux premiers PANs se différencient par un sens de déplacement différent (Est vers Ouest) mais ces indications de directions sont rapportées au témoin et ne sont pas celles du témoin, elles ne bénéficient pas du surcroit d'attention ou précision attaché au remplissage d'un questionnaire ou PV de témoignage, et par ailleurs à proximité d'océan le vent peut être instable. Enfin la date et l'heure un soir de 24 décembre confortent l’hypothèse de lanternes thailandaises car elles sont propices à un événement festif de lâcher de ballons. En conséquence le GEIPAN classe le cas en B: lanternes thailandaises. [GEIPAN classification B — Lanterne thai]
