Le 11 octobre 2013 vers 22h plusieurs personnes observent un phénomène lumineux jaune vif dans le ciel nuageux. Le phénomène scintille puis s'éteint instantanément. Un seul témoignage est rapporté. Le GEIPAN a étudié plusieurs hypothèses pour cette observation d'un point lumineux jaune fixe durant 2 minutes : -étoile ou planète : le témoin indique un ciel très nuageux, les relevés météo de Nimes et d'Avignon aussi. De plus, dans la direction proche de celle indiquée par le témoin (Sud-Est), il n'y a pas d'astre très brillant, susceptible d'être visible à travers une mince couche nuageuse. -reflet du soleil sur un satellite géostationnaire : pas d'évènement de ce type relevé pour cette heure là (ce serait vers 20h), et la couverture nuageuse doit occulter ce phénomène. -lanterne thaï : la lumière telle que décrite par le témoin, pourrait correspondre à une lanterne thaï. La soirée d'un vendredi est assez propice à ce genre de lâcher. Pour être vue immobile, il faudrait un vent de dos (NO) ou de face à l'observateur(SE), ce qui n'est pas exactement le cas car c'est un vent de Nord. Cette hypothèse reste toutefois à considérer. -avion : la lumière telle que décrite par le témoin, pourrait correspondre à des projecteurs d'atterrissage d'un avion, s'approchant ou décollant d'Avignon. Le site Flightradar24 qui répertorie les avions civils équipés de balises émettrices ne mentionne pas d'avion dans cette zone à cette heure là mais un avion militaire, vu de face, reste une hypothèse possible. Le GEIPAN n'a pas les informations permettant de confirmer l'une ou l'autre des deux dernières hypothèses, qui restent elles-mêmes fragiles. Le GEIPAN classe ce cas peu étrange en catégorie "C" par manque d'informations. [GEIPAN classification C — Manque d'informations fiables]
