Le 16 avril 2014 vers 21h30 un témoin observe depuis chez lui trois objets lumineux dans le ciel (entre la constellation du Bouvier et de la Vierge) avançant en formation avant de disparaitre. Quelques secondes plus tard, le témoin observe un PAN ressemblant à une rentrée atmosphérique. La durée totale de l'observation est estimée entre 30 et 50 secondes par le témoin. Un seul témoignage sera recueilli. D’étrangeté et de consistance moyennes (témoin unique, mais rapport précis), ce cas d’observation complexe s'avère être une méprise avec un trio particulier de satellites : un triplet de satellites militaires chinois Yaogan 17 (voir les notes d'enquête). Le PAN présente en effet toutes les caractéristiques types d’un tel triplet : luminosité, aspect visuel, courte visibilité due à un flash, trajectoire et horaire parfaitement cohérents. La dernière partie de l’observation, peu étrange, s’explique soit par un météore, soit par le flash du satellite Iridium 40 intervenu ce soir-là au Petit-Quevilly. Ce n'est pas la perception visuelle du témoin qui est en cause, mais l'interprétation que le témoin fait de son observation à travers son ressenti (observation d’un type particulier de satellites, simultanéité de deux phénomènes différents). Ce cas est classé A, méprise avec le triplet de satellites Yaogan 17 A, B et C. [GEIPAN classification A — Triplet de satellites]
