Le premier janvier 2012 à 1h35 du matin, deux témoins dans une voiture observent dans le ciel le déplacement O-E et silencieux d'un engin qu'ils n'identifient pas. Les témoins ne sont pas d'accord sur la forme mais constatent une lueur jaune orange enveloppant l'objet. Les témoins perdent de vue l'objet caché par la forêt. La description et le déplacement selon le vent (voir relevé météo) sont conformes à l'aspect d'une lanterne thaïlandaise. On note toutefois qu'un des témoins décrit une forme triangulaire, et l'autre une forme circulaire. Il y a eu de très nombreux lâchers de lanternes lors de cette nuit du 1er janvier 2012.
