Le mercredi 21 août 2013 à 9h46, un promeneur est intrigué par une lumière de forte intensité dans le ciel dégagé au-dessus de la mer. La luminosité diminue progressivement avant de disparaitre. L'observation aura duré entre 20 et 25 minutes. Aucun autre témoignage ne sera recueilli sur ce phénomène brillant et silencieux. Condition astronomique : Soleil : azimuth : 104° élévation 32°. Conditions atmosphériques : Vent de NO soutenu : de 19 à 28 km/h, et ciel dégagé L'observation en début ou fin de journée, pendant 20 minutes, d'un point lumineux presque immobile dans le ciel, évoque nettement un ballon à haute altitude. Le GEIPAN n'a pas pu vérifier cette hypothèse, qui correspond pourtant bien à l'observation. Il n'y a pas de lâcher régulier de ballon météo depuis Nice ou les environs, mais plusieurs instituts scientifiques sont susceptibles d'en lâcher dans la région Sud-Est ou en Italie. Il est extrêmement complexe de modéliser le déplacement d'un ballon à haute altitude car les vents à haute alttitude, souvent très puissants, sont différents des vents au sol. Le GEIPAN classe ce cas d'observation peu étrange "B" comme étant probablement un ballon sonde. [GEIPAN classification B — Ballon météorologique]

Le 20 aout 2013 à 22h40, trois personnes observent le passage silencieux dans le ciel d'un phénomène lumineux orangé. L'observation d'une boule orange se déplaçant silencieusement dans le ciel fait penser à une lanterne thaïlandaise. Les relevés météo de Grenoble et Lyon indiquent un vent soutenu de Nord meteo Ce vent est cohérent avec le déplacement observé du Nord-Ouest vers le Sud-Est. La vidéo est tout à fait conforme à cette hypothèse. Ces lanternes sont plus souvent lancées les week-end, mais les fêtes en semaine l'été ne sont pas rares (mardi dans ce cas-ci). Cette observation, très peu étrange, est classée "B" comme probable observation de lanterne thaïlandaise. [GEIPAN classification B — Lanterne thai]
