Le 13 septembre 2011 à 23h15 la gendarmerie est contactée par des personnes qui ont aperçu un objet volant non identifié. La gendarmerie se transporte sur les lieux et les témoins rapportent l'observation dans le ciel d'un objet ovoïde avec trois lumières différentes tout d'abord immobile puis se déplaçant lentement vers le Nord. Le témoin lui-même a trouvé une explication en indiquant qu'il avait vu l'étoile Mira Ceti (constellation de la Baleine). Mais cette étoile s'avère être visible à l'Est à cette heure là, alors que le témoin indique avoir observé à l'Ouest, en direction de Rosans. De plus, le témoin indique avoir vu l'étoile disparaître : une étoile visible à l'Est s'élève dans le ciel au cours de la nuit. (Voir le document "carte celeste Est"). L'étoile observée était donc Arcturus, étoile très brillante (Magnitude 0), qui se couche effectivement vers 23h30 à l'Ouest, en glissant vers le Nord. Comme toutes les étoiles brillantes, sa couleur vire vers l'orange lors du couchant, et elle scintille particulièrement. (Voir le document "carte celeste Ouest"). Ce cas est classé A : identifié.
