Le GEIPAN continue à publier l'ensemble de ses archives sur son site public www.geipan.fr. Dans ses publications, figurent des cas anciens classés à l'époque (A, B, C ou D) et qui font aujourd'hui l'objet d'un réexamen, dans le seul but d'être plus pertinent dans les conclusions. Grâce à de nouveaux moyens techniques (logiciels) et à l'expérience d'enquête acquise depuis toutes ces dernières années, ce réexamen aboutit quelquefois à de nouvelles remarques voire à un changement de classification. Ce cas d'observation précédemment classé C fait partie d'un ensemble de cas réexaminés récemment (voir le compte rendu d’enquête). Le 14 août 1998 à 06 heures, un témoin depuis son domicile observe un gros point très lumineux dans le ciel. Le PAN est globalement fixe mais semble se déplacer très lentement : il semble assez bas dans le ciel et en direction de l'Est. Le témoin filme son observation. Lors de sa déposition à la Gendarmerie, le témoin indique avoir déjà constaté le même phénomène quelques jours auparavant. un seul témoignage est recueilli, mais l'époux du témoin a également vu le PAN. Ce phénomène ne présente aucune étrangeté dans la mesure où la description du témoin correspond parfaitement à l’hypothèse, où la planète en question VENUS se situe bien à l'endroit du PAN sans que le témoin ne l'aperçoive et ne la signale. Le témoin décrit très correctement le phénomène (le stimulus étant bien réel) et un second témoin existe (mais non interrogé). De plus, il y a une vidéo à l'appui de la déclaration. Les outils actuels permettent de bien reconstituer la situation astronomique et météorologique donc de palier en partie les faiblesses de l'interrogatoire en retrouvant les données essentielles et discriminantes. Par contre, la vidéo n'est pas disponible, le second témoin n'a pas été entendu et l'interrogation des gendarmes est très succincte et incomplète. Le GEIPAN classe le cas en « A » : observation très probable de la planète VENUS. [GEIPAN classification A — Vénus]
