15 miles south of Houghton Lake, Michigan. 11:15 p.m. Witness: Northern Air Service pilot K. Jannereth. Four white lights in a stepped-up echelon formation, were joined by two more. They closed in on the airplane, then rapidly slowed and flew along with it for a total of 5 minutes.

Observation faite en novembre 1963 par trois témoins et rapportée au GEIPAN en avril 2008. Le 11 novembre 1963 vers 15h ou 16h un père et ses deux fils (de 18 et 13 ans) se promenent sur un chemin de campagne et observent un phénomène lumineux qui les intrigue. Une boule lumineuse orangée est stationnaire en-dessous de nuages sombres durant plus d'une minute. En rotation par la suite, elle oscille de droite à gauche durant quelques secondes avant de disparaître à très grande vitesse dans les nuages selon une trajectoire rectiligne incurvée vers le haut. Aucun bruit, aucune trainée ne sont remarqués. Aucun autre témoignage concernant ce phénomène ne sera rapporté. La restitution des faits sera faite progressivement entre 2003 et 2007 par un des témoin (l'étudiant de 18 ans). L'hypothèse de l'observation du déplacement de la foudre en boule (plasma) a été réfutée, car d'une part le témoin ne confirme pas la présence d'orage lors de la promenade familiale et d'autre part il existe des différences des caractéristiques entre le phénomène observé le 11 novembre 1963 et celles connues de la foudre en boule. Le GEIPAN classe ce cas en D1 : phénomène inexpliqué, moyennement consistant (témoignage unique, ancien et phénomène lointain) mais avec un caractère d'étrangeté marqué. Quintanilla told the youngsters, in a letter, that this was "one of the most complete" of the unexplained cases for the year.

Summer, 1963; Middletown, New York. 9:30 or 10 p.m. Witness: Grace Dutcher. Eight-ten lights moved at random, then in an oval formation, then singly, during the 1 minute sighting.
