It was approximately 21:00 Hours when me and 4 others were outdoors watching fireworks, when we spotted this balloon-shaped object. I had a pair of 10x50 binoculars at the time, so I decided to take a look. When I was looking through, I saw that the object looked like a red colored balloon with a lit candle inside or around it, not fireworks, an airplane, or even a star. I saw the object facing the northwest part of the sky, and at the time, that part of the sky was still too bright to see any stars. It wasn't an airplane either because I only saw ONE source of light coming from it, not a few which you would expect on any plane. It absolutely wasn't fireworks because we saw the SAME object orbiting the sky horizontally a couple times in a span of a about two hours, compared to a firework which would go up into the sky and produce a LOT of light and last less than 10-15 seconds. At that point I figured that since it wasn't an airplane, a star, or a firework, i! t had to be some type of UFO.

State police sergeant on patrol on a side street observed (2) pulsing round red lights in the SW sky, one on top of the other, which appeared to be a cell or water tower in the vicinity of Maryhill Cemetery. There are no such structures in that area. The objects began moving slowly from W to E, one slightly behind the other. He parked his squad car and shut off the engine and all lights, and got out. The objects were much farther away and larger than originally thought. There was no sound in the relatively quiet night air. The objects glided eastbound, slowly and deliberately, were basketball-sized spheres, approximately 5-times the size of the strobe lights on an airplane, with a shimmery white halo completely circling the sphere. The red light was unlike anything he had ever seen, having a pulsating, almost "liquid" or "living" appearance, and glowing, rather than piercing the night sky. When the first craft was almost directly in front of his line of s! ight, the spheres both suddenly "receded" quickly up and into the western sky, but much higher. There were two other witnesses close by and he talked with them. They verbally confirmed that what we had seen had not been fireworks or flares of any kind, but were definitely very large, unidentifiable aircraft. Twenty minutes or so prior to this sighting, he was unable to connect to the internet on both his Blackberry cell phone or his in-car Panasonic Tough Book Laptop with Verizon air card. Five minutes after the spheres ascended out of sight, both were back online. He did not think to take photos of the craft because the camera on his Blackberry produces very poor quality photos. Here's my report to MUFON: I am a Sergeant with a state police agency; while on patrol on a side street near the 8700 block of north Milwaukee Avenue in Niles, Illinois, on the evening of Thursday, 07/03/2014, at approximately 2315 hours, my eye was caught by two (2) pulsing round red lights in the SW sky, one on top of the other, which appeared to be a cell or water tower in the vicinity of Maryhill Cemetery. This caused me to do a complete double-take, because I know there are no such structures in that area. When one of the objects began moving slowly from west to east, and the other followed in a "wing-man"-type formation (slightly behind and further south than the object to the forefront), I thought, because of their basketball-like appearance and large size, that they were helicopters of the "bubble-cockpit" variety, flying low on the southern horizon. I parked my squad car and shut off my engine and all lights, and exited my squad car to observe the aircraft. As soon as I got out of my car, I realized that these were not helicopters, and were much farther away and larger than I originally thought. There was no helicopter sound whatsoever in the relatively quiet night air, and the presence of many airplanes in the sky (Niles and Park Ridge are under major flight paths in and out of O'Hare) provided me with an excellent contrasting point of reference to what the UFOs at least "were not." The objects glided eastbound, slowly and deliberately. They were basketball-sized spheres, approximately 5-times the size of the strobe lights on an airplane, with a shimmery white halo completely circling the sphere. The red light was unlike anything I have ever seen, having a pulsating, almost "liquid" or "living" appearance, and glowing, rather than piercing the night sky. The white light appeared like an aura (similar to the heat you see emanating from a rocket or jet engine). I was awestruck! When the first craft was almost directly in front of my line of sight, the spheres both suddenly "receded" quickly up and into the western sky (back where I first saw them, but much higher). The UFO that was offset to the rear disappeared so quickly that I barely had time to register that it was gone. The craft that was more "in the lead" receded up and back to the point that it looked like a red star, and then blinked out of sight. I saw that there were two adult male citizens, one African-American and one Caucasian, looking up at the sky from a residential driveway across the street and south of my location. I approached them and we all verbally confirmed that what we had seen had not been fireworks or flares of any kind, but were definitely very large, unidentifiable aircraft. We were all very excited. I remember that my emotions were in a "condition red" or "high alert" status - I remained in this psychological state for many hours after the sighting. The African-American citizen kept repeating "warp speed! they took off into space at warp speed!" Two things I would like to point out are that, 1) for the 20 minutes or so prior to this sighting, I was unable to connect to the internet on both my Blackberry cell phone or my in-car Panasonic Tough Book Laptop with Verizon air card. Five minutes after the spheres ascended out of sight, both my telephone and in-car computer came back online. 2. I did not think to take photos of the craft because the camera on my Blackberry produces very poor quality photos. I've tried to take pictures of the full moon in the past, and they come out as a blurry white pin-dot of light. I am working on getting a record of any 911 calls for suspicious lights in the sky during this time period.

Last night, July 3rd, 2014, my wife and six other adults saw a light that looked like a faint star rise past the north side of the moon on the western horizon. It then sailed across the sky in a straight line, passing directly overhead only slightly south of the Zenith until if faded from view on the eastern horizon. There was not sound. Of the eight adults present, we all agreed that it was not blinking, and was traveling much faster than a plane or satellite, but slower than a meteor. Our best guess was that the total time that it took to go from one horizon to the other was about 20 seconds. Its direction of travel was about 5 degrees north of due east.

Seen amber orbs light up in the Eastern sky. Moving fast they would get bright and then disappear. This happened several times for about half hour. One made a sharp turn to the South. Was watching fireworks at the time. Orbs appeared to the North of the display. Neighbors seen them also. Called my grandson in Normal, Il. and he seen two around the same time.

Sitting watching stars. A shooting star was seen earlier in the evening. Then came something that at first glance appeared to be another shooting star, but it streaked across the entire night sky. Normally the shooting stars burn out rather quickly. This proceeded to run across the entire sky until out of view. It was white and spherical moving at a very high rate of speed. Size was not able to be determined due to high rate of speed and nothing against which to judge it. It had a vapor cloud or dusting or something similar both behind and around it as it traveled. This trail was much shorter than a typical shooting star. I know it was not a shooting star because I had just seen one. It was definitely not an airplane, as it was moving way too fast.

The witness was heading north on Cass Ave. to get on the highway to go to work. At the time he was driving past the property that Argon National Lab is located on. He first noticed the object because it was reflecting the sunlight in a way that seemed to make it glitter; easily visible against the clear blue sky. At first he thought the object was a plane but thought it was strange that it was reflecting light in the way it was. Upon further observation he determined that the object didn't seem to be following any sort of linear path, but instead seemed to be maintaining its position for the entire duration of the observation. The object appeared to be a thin elliptical shape that was spinning along its horizontal axis. After watching it for less than a minute he decided to call a family member and tell them what he was seeing. Almost as soon as he had that thought, the object instantly vanished from sight leaving no trace that it had been there. (MUFON 57528)

It was around 3:30am that I looked out my balcony and as I looked up at the tree, enjoying the breeze, a red/blue orb streaked across the sky. My balcony faces north and the object flew right above my house heading north. As it past my house it made a weird noise too. I can best describe it as the sound when you steam something. That "tsssh" sound. It was a bit foggy too. So was it going fast enough to cause that noise due to the foggy mist? Being that I'm on the second floor ( balcony ) I could still see the object. It flew and then stopped in midair about 3-4 blocks north from my house. It stopped and then descended to where I could not see it anymore because of trees. I waited of course to see if it'd go back up, and what do you know, it did. It quickly flew up and started moving left, then right, and vertically up. Clearly NOT some airplane. It looked like it would appear, and then disappear, and appear again to be on the other side of where it! was. There was one major blue/red light that really stood out, but then I saw another light right next to it. Then I could Bailey make out what looked to be one more orb/light trailing with the other two. At one moment I even thought they were a single object. Like one of those triangle UFO's, but then again my mind might just have wanted to make a picture out of the orbs. This lasted about 2-3mins of my clearly seeing it, and then 2 or so more mins where I could sort off still see it appearing and then disappearing. Oh quick thing too. When I saw it ascending and descending I tried communicating by flashing my lights on and off. Didn't seem to do anything. Either way this was pretty cool. I was able to record it descending once with my iPhone. So I have proof. Also one more thing at the end I could have sworn I saw it shoot out acouple beams out ( reddish beams ). And even if the trees weren't blocking my view, I could swear it looked like it at one point might it also mi! ght have landed. I was so close to running outside down the 3-! 4 blocks down to see if I could get a better look. I didn't though because I didn't want to miss anything in case it flew back up again, which it did. I get home from work around 3am and sometimes when the weather is nice, I'll grab a beer and just sit out by my fire pit and enjoy the peace & quiet, and the stars. On this particular night is was quiet and the skies were crystal clear when I caught a small moving blue light out of the corner of my eye. My first thought was a satellite (which are a fairly common sights on clear nights at 3am) but the instant my eyes fully focused it was obviously not a satellite. It was a small glowing blue orb and it couldn't have been more than 2-3000 ft off the ground. It came from the west and was flying due east & moving fast but it wasn't making a sound...it was flying in total silence. As I watched it pass over my house, I no more got the words, ((profanity deleted)) out of my mouth, when I heard a loud jet engine, followed by a second loud jet engine. I turned my focus back to the west, and that's when I saw the beacon lights of two fighter jets flying in formation, and they were on the same heading, and altitude, as the blue orb. I suppose the fighters were trying to chase it, but the orb was flying twice as fast as they were. I then turned my attention back at the orb, and watched it fly out of sight then did the same with the fighters. Once they were gone, I just sat down and was in awe at what I just saw. What the blue orb was, I do not know, which strictly means I couldn't ID it, thus the UFO designation. It could have been an alien craft, or it could have been a highly advanced military aircraft, although we only have a couple small military air reserve units in the area, and nothing more as far as I know. So I doubt top secret aircraft are being developed and test flown at or near our small air guard units in central Illinois...but who knows. So in summary, a strange blue glowing orb, with no beacon lights & no sound flew at high speed over my house in complete silence at 2-3000 ft and it was being chased by two fighter jets at 3am in the morning. Things like this don't happen in my town at any time of the day or night let alone at 3am. Once they were all gone, I finished my beer then went to bed wondering what I had seen and if it was aliens I wondered what in the hell an alien could have possibly found interesting in Central Illinois. I've been out there multiple times since then but other than the occasional satellite I haven't seen any more UFO's but I'm still looking. ((ADDENDUM FROM WITNESS)) Mr Davenport, I was talking about my sighting (see link below) tonight with my son, but I couldn't remember the date it happened, so I came back to your website to refresh my memory. Anyway, I noticed at the bottom of my report was a notation indicating the date of the sighting was approximate. I re-read my report and I should have been more specific but the sighting occurred 3 days prior, on 6/27/14 @ approx 3am. I just wanted to provide more specific details to clear up the discrepancy. I moved to the window to pull the shade down and noticed an odd group of lights in the southern sky. As we are in the city (Chicago) and cannot often see stars, it was so compelling that I called my husband to observe this with me. Eight to twelve lights grouped together in formations (2, 4). Once they grouped together, they began to move at a very fast rate traveling straight UP...in a straight line. This was mind-blowing for us as there was a distinct formation and a clear ascent straight upward. We will never forget this. Witness indicates that the date is approximate. PD

From a patio in a suburban neighborhood, the primary witness observed a small, bright red light rising from the horizon in the WSW direction. The direction corresponded approximately with that regularly observed for commercial airlines/cargo aircraft on approach to MDW or ORD. The light approached from WSW, heading NE at an apparent velocity at least 4-5 times the apparent velocity of a typical commercial aircraft seen on approach from that direction. At first, the primary witness considered that the light was a low aircraft without standard landing or navigational illumination. There seemed to be a faint hiss from the light as it approached. As it reached between 30 and 45 degrees in elevation above the horizon, the light instantly decreased in apparent velocity and changed heading N. The light then continued on at the reduced velocity until it reached a position to the NW of the observation position (still at similar angle of elevation) and appeared ! to hover. As the light began to hover, the witness observed two more identical lights in close formation with each other follow the same approach and pattern at similar velocity. The faint hissing sound also seemed to emanate from these. As the pair of lights approached the apparent waypoint for change to a N heading, the witness observed a commercial aircraft at typical approach altitude from the SSE, flying directly overhead, presumably on approach to MDW, and with standard landing and navigation lights. This commercial aircraft should have had clear observation of the pair of lights, and likely the fourth light. The dull roar of the commercial aircraft was clearly audible and was vastly different than the faint sound heard from the lights by the primary witness. The witness also noticed that the first light had apparently disappeared as the pair of lights progressed along the same N heading. As the pair of lights began to hover in the same NW location as the first light had, ! a fourth light appeared from the same location along the horizon, proceeded along the same route, and at similar velocity to the first three. At this point, the primary witness called a second witness from the residence to confirm what was being observed. The second witness observed the two lights in formation appear to hover in the same location that the primary witness had observed the first light hover. The secondary witness did not observe the entire approach of the fourth light from the horizon, but did observe its change in heading to follow the pair of lights N. Both observers witnessed the pair of lights either reduce in illumination, or proceed at increased velocity N, until they disappeared. The secondary witness returned to the inside of the residence as the fourth light progressed along the path N. The primary witness then observed the fourth light appear to hover in the same location as the first light and the pair of lights had hovered. For 1-2 minutes, the light seemingly hovered in place, with slight random movement. After hovering, the light began to diminish as the pair had, again either e! xtinguishing or moving off at rapid velocity directly away from the observer, to the N. The witness also observed another, presumably commercial (based on apparent landing and navigation lights), aircraft in the distance. This second commercial aircraft appeared in the NNW and appeared to be following an E heading, possibly on approach to ORD. From the point of observation, this aircraft and the fourth light appeared to have intersecting paths. As the fourth light faded from view completely, there was approximately 3-5 degrees of angle between it and the commercial aircraft, with the commercial aircraft still to the W of the fourth light. For approximately 5 minutes following the event, the primary witness continued to scan for additional lights, but none appeared. As the fourth light was moving off to the N, a third commercial aircraft appeared on the horizon from the same location as the four lights, to the WSW of the observation position. At the closest approach (as each light changed heading N), the red lights appeared in size equal to landing lights on a commercial aircraft at standard to low approach. The red lights did not blink and no strobe or steady lights of any color appeared to accompany the lights. The intensities (though not the color) of the lights were similar to a commercial aircraft landing light on low approach and did not appreciably vary, except with distance as they approached from the WSW and appeared to depart to the N. The primary witness wears prescription eyeglasses for distance correction and had them on for the entire event. The secondary witness wears contact lenses for distance correction and had them in for the entire event. The secondary witness did not indicate noticing the faint hissing sound with any of the lights that the primary witness heard. Neither witness was under the influence of an intoxicant during the event. Over the course of the event, the primary witness observed cloud-to-cloud lightning strokes at altitude far to the SSW. The distance was great enough that thunder did not perceptibly report at the observation location from the strokes. Fireworks had been launched in the vicinity of the observation location during the course of the evening, though the primary witness does not recall hearing the report of mortars at any time during the event and each of the lights lasted far longer than any pyrotechnic device the primary and secondary witnesses have previously! observed and did not wax or wane appreciably in intensity. There is no doubt by the primary and secondary witnesses that the lights were some type of aircraft, and not a pyrotechnic effect. In contrast to standard aircraft, the lights displayed the ability to move at high velocity and make rapid changes in velocity. The ability to, apparently, hover is not common among fixed-wing aircraft, yet the apparent velocity seemed to the primary witness to be too great for a rotor aircraft. If the lights were at low altitude (to explain the high velocity from the horizon), they did not emit a loud noise as would be expected from a rotor or fixed-wing aircraft. The primary and secondary witnesses are familiar with military helicopters that operate periodically in the local airspace. These aircraft (Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawks) have always been readily audible both during the day and at night. If the lights were aircraft with STOL/VTOL capabilities, they did not emit the expected sound of a jet turbine engine.

I was driving home through a residential neighbourhood about 9pm. I looked up and saw 4 lights: they were orange on top, silver in the middle, red on the bottom. I thought at first they were lights in the distance, i.e. warning lights for aircraft, or something similiar, as they seemed to be the equivalant in size, but then realized that these lights were much more near to me. I began to detour in order to get closer to them, and possibly more concretely discern what exactly they were. I zigzagged down the residential streets, keeping my eye on the lights as much as I could...but by the time I came out on a major thoroughfare, they had disappeared. I even went back and totally drove the route again, but there was nothing.

Driving west on I-64 there was patchy fog to my left, and there was a bright light coming toward me. Right in front of me, the light broke through the fog. I saw an oval-shaped object which tear-dropped at the bottom. It seemed to be flying about 1000 to 1500 feet above the ground. About half way down the object, it started to turn greenish, and turned solid green towards the bottom. It was travelling about 200 miles per hour, and the light stayed within the object (rather than shining outside the object). When the object passed by suddenly, it looked like it was flying out of control, in a wave pattern, like a rock skipping across water (up/down/up/down), and then it vanished.

Me and my boyfriend went outside cause the dogs were barking when we got outside I immediately looked up and noticed 3 stars and to the right was another v-shape of 3 stars. Then we both noticed the lights were slightly moving, wobbling. Then I looked to the left of the middle cluster and noticed light blue tiny lights, the top 2 we solid whete there was 2 more below it which sporadicly blunk very fast. I was pointing out some other odd looking lights to him, when we looked back and there was about 20 more lights that just appeared all around. They way they moved in almost seemed like watching a storm cloud rolling in. The formation would change almost like making diffetent shapes. Or designs. as they wrre moving. As I realized just how many objects were in the sky, it kinda started freaking me out and I went inside.

What appeared to be a star (eastern sky/on very clear night) began to move incredibly fast, traveling south. Ufo had consecutive bursts of white light, one second apart, and traveled in a straight line and then disappeared. Object was so far that no shape or detail of the body was visible except for the extremely bright bursts of light. Half a second after vanishing a bright burst of light appeared a fairly large distance away and beneath UFO. The object may have jumped that entire distance within the time it took to flash another time. (possible connection between the two objects or two completely different objects within fairly same distance and emiting same light in both color and intensity). I was observing the sky for a few minutes and noticed several aircraft going in different directions. I spotted (and heard) a propeller driven and also several jet aircraft. As they progressed across the sky I could hear them as well. They were at varying altitudes as observed. All these aircraft had typical blinking lights as commonly seen on commercial aircraft. I spotted, then heard, a jet coming south, and it passed my location slightly to the east. I could hear its engine sound and I estimate its altitude at approximately 5000 feet. Then I spotted another light object trailing behind the jet by several seconds and going in the same general direction. It was a very steady non-blinking white light and seemed to be at a much higher altitude. It was unusual. The light was bright but not glaringly so. No sound came from this object as it passed which added to the impression it was at very high altitude. It proceeded across the sky in about the same time fram! e as the previous jet. So I estimate its speed to be much faster than the jet in order for it to cover the same distance in the sky in that short amount of time. Then it quickly faded out. The visual impression is that it just ascended out of the atmosphere. I have observed objects before in the sky that I could not identify. I reported one here several years ago, and one to MUFON. I received a follow-up inquiry. In that case, I made further observations of the area of the sky where I'd seen the later object for many days, to be fair and thorough and possibly see an explainable repeat of the sighting. After my followup observations I determined I could have seen explainable, if even unlikely, naturally occurring phenomena, and I explained that in detail in my followup answers. That is how I answered the follow-up inquiry. I keep a healthy skepticism. I do not go looking for unexplained sightings, I simply occasionally sit and relax and look at the night sky. I am always ready to accept the most likely reasonable explanation. I think that what sightings are most likely to be, they probably are, and have no illusions or belief agenda to see them to be labeled as “extraterrestrial.” I will not report a sighting unless I can't understand what it is. Only then I think it is my obligation to file a report that might be corroborated or possibly support another's sighting of the same object.

Out with my sister having our yard sale when she says, "Is that a bird?" As I looked at the object I first thought it was a bag that had flown up with the wind. As the object got closer towards us we noticed that it was a ship of some sort. It appeared to look similar to a bow tie like shape. It moved in an unconventional pattern almost counter clockwise. Seemed as if the pilot had lost all control of the ship. I know that it definitely was a ship due to the one light that would flicker when the craft turned in our direction. The light seemed almost blueish and was in the middle of the craft. The object appeared to go higher and higher and we stared until it was out of distance and way up in the sky. As the object passed our area I began to record with my iPhone but only seen a dot when I looked back at the video. Thought it was weird so I decided to google and came across this site so hope someone else noticed. Just seemed very out of the ordinary. Lastly I would like to add that it made absolutely no noise at all.

My family, as well as my friends were spending the weekend out at my grandparents house and we decided to have a bonfire. During the bonfire I had leaned out of the BBQ hut that we had our fire going in and noticed, what looked like a flying fireball, silently fly into the tree line, heading north across the lake. I pointed it out and everyone dismissed it as an air plane. As the night went on the light returned, same size and shape heading the same direction, this time a second one rode next to it (the objects were facing in such a way it looked like headlights in the sky), again with no noise. I pointed it out and as i did the two fireballs began to spin around each other then slowly began separating away from each other. We observed it until the two craft disappeared into the tree line and out of view behind the house. Witness indicates that the date is approximate. PD

I am always looking up at the sky. It was clear. The sky was pale blue with no cumulus clouds in sight. I observed what appeared to be a red egg-shaped object in the sky moving westwardly (Object A). I guessed it could be a red party balloon until I realized that if it was a party balloon, it was positioned far too high in the sky for me to have been able to discern either a shape or color. Then I saw a second structure (Object B) following behind it. Object B was not solid, and I can only describe it as being similar to an old fashioned box kite. Both objects appeared to be at the same height, moving westward and the whole incident lasted no more than 15 seconds. Then both objects abruptly disappeared. The objects did not fall nor did they go behind a cloud . . . both objects were just gone. Possibly this can be explained as something common or ordinary, but I have never seen anything like this before.

As me and a buddy were driving home we both noticed a bright circular shape in the sky, lower than a satellite but slower than a plane. It looked like it was on fire almost like a fireball floating. The first fireball went across the entire sky and then faded away. Then just before driving off we noticed another fire ball even lower and brighter. Same speed, but this one went across the sky, the lights flickered, and then immediately went black. When that happened we both could still clearly see the figure, it was black, and triangle looking, and oddly enough it began to descend. We could tell because the figure started to look bigger and bigger. After a minute or so it vanished. Very weird experience, and we are still unsure of exactly what it was.

On 6/08/2014, in Johnsburg, Illinois, my wife, kids and I observed a steady stream of reddish/orange lights emerge from East, and progress at a rapid rate towards the South West. The lights were mostly following a straight line formation, with a few further South the all of them. We did not hear any sounds, and the lights were much brighter than the foreground. They seemed to emerge from the darkness, get brighter, and then vanish as fast as they appeared. The lights were bright red, not aviation lights. From my vantage point it appeared that these lights were increasing in altitude as the lights became dimmer and dimmer until vanishing. We spoke via telephone with the witness, and he seemed to us to be quite eloquent and sober-minded, in his description of the sighting event. We suspect that his report is an accurate portrayal of what was seen. PD

We were driving west in Elburn in a car with four passengers. The driver noticed an orange light in the sky. We all looked up to see four bright orange jellyfish shaped lights in the sky in a straight, diagonal line moving faster than any airplane we have ever seen. They stayed in our vision for about ten minutes. Something notable about this encounter was that one minute into the sighting, a military plane swooped under the four bright lights.
