Circle over Hilham, TN
A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.
The report, as filed
I walked outside to have a smoke right before 1 am and was just admiring the stars. One “star” in particular was very bright in comparison to the others. After a few moments, I noticed that it was moving slightly, but hovering in place, almost fixed in one spot. As I’m realizing it’s actually moving, I notice that it gets dimmer and then bright again, almost like it’s traveled a distance away and then came back. I tried to rule out every “possible” other aircraft and could not identify it with anything I’ve ever seen before. It light was a very bright white and there was absolutely no sound, the only thing I could pick up on the video was the cicadas and crickets in the background, which was oddly, super loud now that I’m thinking about it. I went inside to grab my two friends and it was still there. We all tried observing it through some pretty high powered binoculars but the light was too bright and it moved too fast to really focus on it. We all watched it for over two hours.
Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #171031). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.
Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
