Fireball over St. Joseph, IN

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

Bright orange fireball looking orb sitting what appeared to be stationary. I had my binoculars and viewed the orb for a few minutes no flashing lights no red or green lights just bright orange in color. I viewed it until I was frozen by cold temps and went back inside. We lined up the Orb with nearby tree branches to see if it was moving it appeared stationary. A few planes were in the distance from Chicago we identified them by white lights and flashing. We wondered if it was a planet since it was not moving. The Orb then began moving out more towards the lake. Then the Orb began getting smaller in size and disappeared. We went back inside and soon it returned back in the same general position and once again got small and disappeared. Photos are from my iPhone so not best.

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #166380). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
