Cigar over Stonington, ME
A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.
The report, as filed
Sitting on a dock, waiting for boats to come in and sell their products, I continuously scan the horizon. I do my best to see the boats coming from a distance so I can have everything ready when they pull up. This particular nice sunny summer day as I scanned from left to right nothing was there. When I scanned back right to left, I saw a 60' metallic tic tac shaped object hovering 20-30' off the water. Once I layed eyes on the object it moved from right to left slowly and silently until it went out of view behind an island. No wings, no sound, no idea what it could have been or how it appeared in front of me.
Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #165242). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.
Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
