Circle over Wheaton, IL
A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.
The report, as filed
In my backyard and completely night/black out. I saw about 20 circular lit-up objects flying in a row in the sky. There was no sound. They were flying slowly and then one by one their lights went out sequentially. The lights were not multi-colored or blinking. They were flying slowly.
Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #155793). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

On Thursday, September 14 at approximately 11:55 pm while I was headed home, I was driving west on Butterfield Road right before crossing Naperville Road in Wheaton when I witnessed a giant, neon green fireball/sphere-like object with irregular/jagged edges leaving a long trail of green behind it flying angled downward from the sky traveling south to north - right behind/above a stripmall where TJ Maxx and other stores are. I had my windows rolled up, but didn’t hear any sound. It disappeared behind the buildings and I couldn’t tell how close it was, but it seemed like it was right in the sky in front of me up ahead. I heard no sound of impact. The whole event was only a few seconds as it traveled extremely fast. It was the most surreal and bizarre thing I’ve ever seen. Only 1 other car was driving next to me at the time with no others on the road.

We were on our roof in the evening looking for fireworks when we noticed two bright flying objects hovering in the sky. They were brightly lit and appeared to flame slightly. We thought they were drones but they appeared very large and very bright. They hovered near each other and slowly descended. They were far enough away for disappear over the trees so they must have been fairly large. A darker craft was seen slightly above them.

Four lights hovering motionlessly in a near-perfect square formation. No sound. Lights began to move overhead us and we could tell the looked like small blimps with fighter jet wings. 3 leave in a single line and the fourth moves to a new position and begins hovering again. We could see it appeared to have clear panels on it which were leaking light. It was hovering pretty low then we had to head home. We captured crude video footage of the event.

I was standing next to my car looking up in the sky, and all of a sudden, a triangular shaped object passed by real fast and silent. It had to be about 500 feet up in the air. It had like green lights on its under belly that just floored me because it was going so fast and was so silent that you could hear a pin drop before you got a sound out of this craft.

I called FAA to see if they knew what it was, they transferred me to the Aurora, IL, tower. And they stated there was nothing on the radar. And would be no VTOL's in the area.

watched airliner in the sky at about 10,000 ft (close to O'Hare) when I spotted a big red light beyond it. I had an airplane in sight for reference and this was not an ordinary aircraft. It went approximately east to west, not too fast, gaining altitude until it disappeared in the clouds. As soon as it disappeared, another orange light appeared, following the same flight path. It was about 20 seconds behind the first one, way too close for a regular airliner distancing. I ran inside to get my telescope pointer (magnification @20x) and looked at it through it. I did not see any body, just an orange light. As soon as this one disappeared a third one showed up, following the same flight path. Again, I looked at it through my telescope pointer and it did not look like an aircraft. All I could see was orange light moving in the sky, east to west. There was no other lights, or aircraft after this one. Strange since we live so close to O'Hare.
