Un contrôleur aérien rapporte une observation faite par un pilote d'un avion de ligne en provenance de Rome et en direction de Casablanca. Le 16 août à 20h37 TU, le pilote survolant la Sardaigne observe une illumination jaune avec débris traversant l’atmosphère. Au même moment, le contrôleur aérien de la tour de Bastia observe une forte lumière blanche. Il s'agit d'un bolide vu par de nombreux témoins (104) et répertorié par par l’IMO (International Meteor Organization) International Meteor Organization.
