Fireball over Derby (near), VT
A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.
The report, as filed
July first, 2019 at about 9:50 pm, on Vermont 91, approximately milepost 110. Far away from traffic or population. This is the truth. I was on my way home from Northern Maine. There was a hitchiker with me, I looked in the rear mirror. Noticed we were being followed. It looked like a motorcycle light, but orange. I could approximate the the distance behind me at between from 1/4 to 1/2 miles behind me. I could not determine the size, but it was orange, not white. The hitchiker saw it too. It was just a red-orange light behind us. Orange mostly, and sort of bright. It made a right turn without a road exit, it had a tail, and just disappeared.
Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #148022). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.
Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
