As reported

Unknown over Trenton, OH

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

I was standing at my back porch to smoke a late night cigarette, when a stream of light appeared out of no where int the sky. It was far too low to be a shooting star, but that is the best way I can describe what I saw. However, what was strange about this was rather than fade out, like most shooting stars I've seen, this ended with a bright burst of light, like a bright flash, and then vanished. the streamed of light from the "burst" were mainly horizontal ... The rays were distinct in direction rather than dispersed. The light was a very pale blue color.

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #145572). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
