Unknown over Machesney park, IL
A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.
The report, as filed
I followed the lights which appeared to flash periodically and they were red and green. It was a clear night with no clouds in the sky and almost full moon. At one point the lights turned off, then turned on, then off again, and finally turn back to stay. The lights appeared to eventually lean to the right. The lights traveled from the northeast to the southwest. I had called my wife to tell her what I saw and and our kids looked outside and could see it too, even when I was 25 miles away from home. I drove from Winnebago County to Stephenson County till it was getting late and I was not catching up to it. Witness provides no contact information. PD
Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #139053). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.
Ask for the records
What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
