What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

Around 5:30PM, I was in front of my house, when I noticed a bright light in the Northeastern Sky passing by the Beehive Cluster. It seemed to be moving so I focused on it to make sure it was. There were no flashing lights and it was just one solid bright white light. It moved through the sky and to the horizon within a couple of minutes. I used my star map to see what was in the sky thinking it could be an asteroid or the ISS but nothing showed up. It was too bright and large to be a satellite or the ISS. Because it was dark and the object was bright, it was hard to pick up any details of the object itself.

I saw a big light streak across a good portion of the sky in very little time. It seemed to be too big to be a shooting star.
