Cylinder over Troy, NC

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

On Thursday night, January 12, 2017, as I was traveling south on highway 134, just about 5 miles outside of Troy, NC, I noticed a metallic cigar shape object falling straight down out of the sky. It was a clear night with a full moon, so I could see the object clearly. I drove past the object before it either hit the ground or whether it leveled out and flew away. I called a friend who I call a sky watcher, and sure enough, she had spotted a bright burst of light, which then faded quickly over the city of Sofia. Don’t know if the two events are related or not. Witness elects to remain totally anonymous; provides no contact information. PD

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #132142). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
