Fireball over Emerald Isle, NC

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

At approximately 11:45pm, while sitting on the deck of a beach front property on Emerald Isle, NC, I observed a yellow orangish sphere/fireball in the SSE sky that was pulsing different diameters/brightness as it descended through slighly cloudy conditions at an 80ish degree angle down into the ocean. Event lasted 5-8 seconds, and was estimated to be several miles out to sea. Witness elects to remain totally anonymous; provides no contact information. PD

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #129047). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

The orb was seen coming from the direction of the ocean and was headed towards the sound (land). The object was illuminated in an orange glow until right before it started to go across the sound. The object could still be seen when the light around it went out and it appeared to be round in shape (sphere). It made no sound at all. After the sighting we heard a lot of military aircraft in the area flying low. This could have possibly been a coincidence since there is a marine base nearby, but there was more activity on this night than others.

At approximately 0100 hrs, Jan 17, 2020 I observed a dark amber/orange orb hovering approximately 200-300 ft off the surface of the ocean surface. Orb would levitate, then move slowly downward to horizon, then accelerate straight up at high rate of speed. At one point the orb shot straight up, then straight down, then upwards again. Through binoculars, I could see 5 individual bright lights inside the main orb. This activity lasted at least 2 hrs, then orb accelerated upward and left. Hover time (without moving) over the ocean would sometimes last 10 mins. Movement aeemed to be in 90° trajectories.

Squarish red/green lights flew over one at a time in same direction (S to N) over about a 20 minute period. Only about 800 feet above the sound, coming from the direction of the ocean. Very bright and colorful. Silent. Clear, starry night. We were sitting on an open dock over Bogue sound. Mars was visible.

It seemed every five minutes we saw a large red orb moving over the ocean from left to right over Emerald Isle Beach, then just disappeared. I took high def video of at least two of these orbs.

A bright, round, orange ball, for lack of a better word, suddenly appeared in the sky (to the south), and drifted across the sky from east to west. It did not exactly go in a straight line, but also didn't move around or zig-zag. It seemed to dim slightly at one point, but then returned to its bright orange color. There were no flashing lights and no sound. It was visible for approximately two minutes, perhaps slightly less, and then disappeared as quickly as it appeared.
