As reported

Unspecified over Daphne, AL

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

We don't know what it was. Last night, between 10:30 to 11:00pm, we heard a rumbling noise. Because we have had many thunder storms, we thought that it was thunder. After a couple of minutes, when the noise did not stop, I thought maybe there was a tornado near. It seemed to be coming closer, so I checked the local stations to see if there were tornado warnings. Nothing reported, but the noise seemed to be passing overhead. My wife came out of the bedroom and said, "Do you hear that noise?" We went out on the front porch and could still hear it. I went to the end of the street to see if I could see the cause of the noise. I couldn't see anything be could still hear it in the distance. It wasn't a plane or helicopter because it moved so slowly and lasted too long. I have never heard anything like this before. Have their been any other reports of this strange noise?

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #128640). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
