Fireball over Springfield, MO

The report, as filed
I am a retired teacher living in Springfield, Missouri. I was watering my garden about 10:15 this evening. I was not wearing a watch, but the weather news (Channel 3 KYTV broadcasts 10:35 PM - 11:37 PM) had just started when I went inside to tell my husband what I had seen. While I have been writing this report, midnight has come and gone so this is Thursday, July 21, 2016, and it covers an event which occurred on Wednesday, July 20. The sky was clear and I could see some stars. I was facing east when I caught a glimpse of a very large object over my left shoulder. It appeared to be moving through the sky in a straight line from SW to NE and disappeared from view behind tree tops in my neighbor’s yard. It took about five seconds to cover less than a 90 degree portion of the sky. There is a full moon, tonight. I know that the moon seems larger near the horizon than it does at the zenith, so it is difficult to compare the size of what I saw to the size of the moon – but the object was gigantic, more like the moon than anything else in the sky – exactly the size of a nearby street light, and as bright. I do not mean that it illuminated the ground, but that it appeared as bright as the street light I could see at the same time. The object was yellow with a tinge of red, and looked like a flame without any sparks or smoke. It was nearly round, tapering just a little toward the back end, but it had no tail, left no trail. It did not blink or change its intensity. It was silent. Our local meteorologist says that, at that time, the wind was from the south at 8 miles per hour.
Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #128617). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

What would the paper say?
For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.

At 2:58 am at Springfield SW of Columbia, 130 miles away. A witness stepped outside to view the lunar eclipse just before it's totality, and saw a very faint, but large V shaped object moving steady southeast overhead. It appeared grey, made no sound, and had no lights. It appeared metallic and thick. It was very hard to see against the dark sky. (MUFON CMS)

At 6:20 am I let my dogs out. It is a very clear morning. The stars are very visible and clear. I look up every morning to check the stars and sky out. Today, I looked up and saw a star-sized object moving at a very high rate of speed. It zig-zagged. I first thought it was my imagination the way it zig-zagged. I kept watching, and no doubt, it was zig-zagging, like it was avoiding objects in its path. As I watched, it disappeared into the dark sky as if it was climbing higher. It was visible for maybe, 3 minutes. It looked just like a star.

I was riding in the passenger side of the car, looked out the window and saw a huge stationary craft hovering maybe 75 feet off the ground. I starting exclaiming to everyone in the car about it to look, but they didn’t see. I noticed the craft was completely silent and huge, twice the size of a large airplane and black with a sort of damascus metal design all over. I was pretty shook up and couldn’t understand why nobody else could see it. I felt strange sensations in my mind like I was trying to be confused or controlled what I thought. We drove by the spot again a few minutes later and it was gone.

my friend and I were on my back patio smoking cigars and I noticed a group of what I first thought was a small group of birds but quickly realized it was not. It was 4 dim lights, 3 in a triangle formation with the 3rd just outside the triangle traveling from west to east. I have no idea how high they were so I have no idea how big the craft was. They appeared to be traveling at a very high rate of speed and did very slightly from flying in a straight line. we observed them until we could not see them anymore. The event only lasted about 6 seconds. And we also noticed that they made no sound that we could hear. I am a USAF veteran and now my wife and I own a small restaurant and I'm a musician. My friend is a tile setter and is also a musician.

On July 4, 2020, I had visited my parents home to celebrate independents day. Around 9:30pm (21:30) I left to return home. When I got to the intersection just below my parents house, I noticed a round flashing light in the sky. My first thought was an airplane, headed to the airport. But then I noticed a second light at a distance behind the first one. Our airport doesn’t receive airplanes that close together. It’s a rather small airport with not much traffic. I grabbed my cell phone and snapped a quick picture. I wanted to get out and watch it but a car pulled up behind me and so I turned and pulled to the side of the road. I stopped the car, and got out. This is when I decided to film the lights. I was a little shook up and fumbled around with my cell phone but I was able to get three short video clips. In the last video, I panned from the light in the front to the light in the back and stayed with that second light until it disappeared. The light was red and yellow like fire and flashed in pulses. (All caught in video!) then it just dissolved into the sky. After the event,I reviewed the still picture I took and noticed a third set of lights above the other two with very faint lights in two rows, exactly parallel to each other. These lights were NOT visible to me with my naked eye and only appear in the photo. I also zoomed in on the initial ball of light and could see it wasn’t completely round. There was a “stem” of light on the front. The event lasted for several minutes. Much longer than any pyrotechnics would
