As reported

Flash over Lake of the Ozarks, MO

A witness account on file, unevaluated. Most of the archive rests here, and honestly so.

The report, as filed

Then as the light dimmed I observed it moving northward at a slower speed then a usual shooting star then burning by out. I observed it in the same small section of the sky repeatedly for approximately 20 min. Each time doing the exact same thing but going a different direction in the same small area of the sky. I have tried to reason away possibly natural phenomenon that would create that. Such exploding stars or even Nasa spacecraft burning their rockets. I am curious astonishing what it could be or even if anyone else saw it. The light was so bright!

Held as-reported from National UFO Reporting Center (record NUFORC #128132). Witness text is preserved verbatim, including its spelling; nothing is edited beyond formatting.

Ask for the records

What would the paper say?

For a dated, located U.S. sighting, FAA radar data and ATC communications are the records most likely to exist. Through Aletheca, the house instrument, anyone can commission the request — filed, chased, and published in the open, refusals included. The draft goes over already written: the records sought, and the date window they would live in.
